Michael Amon is a general assignment reporter for Newsday. He has also written for a variety of other publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post and Backpacker Magazine. In 2004, Amon co-authored a series of profiles in The Washington Post on the Army Reserve soldiers accused of mistreating Iraqi detainees at Abu Ghraib prison. Those articles were included in a package named a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2005. He also founded Disgrace Magazine, a humor zine based in Brooklyn.
